Litt språkleg plukk: ‘Mordbombar’?

Edward Feser har ein særs interessant analyse av bruken av omgrepet ‘sjølvmordsbombar.’ Grunnen er at einskilde vil at ein skal gå over til å bruke ‘mordbombar’ (‘homicide bomber’) i staden for ‘sjølvmordsbombar,’ då dette visstnok skal vere misvisande. Feser meiner at dette berre er tull, og det trur eg han har heilt rett i. Feser sitt argument er at sjølv om ordet ‘bombar’ kan vere ein generell term for folk som sprenger ei bombe, også utan drap som mål, så er det ikkje slik ordet vert brukt i daglegtalen. “For example,” skriv Feser, “no one who heard on the news a few years ago about the Olympic Park Bomber was in any doubt about what he was up to. They knew that he was interested in killing people, and not merely in providing some extra fireworks for the Summer Olympics.” Han skriv vidare:

And does anyone really think that when the media have made reference to “suicide bombers,” any sane reader or listener has taken this to mean that the bombers in question may have intended to kill only themselves and no one else? To ask the question is to answer it – especially since there are no “suicide bombers” who intend to kill only themselves (certainly none I’ve ever heard of). This is a non-issue, and conservatives should drop it.

Ved å leggje til ‘sjølvmord’ til ordet ‘bombar’ får vi eit uttrykk som er heilt klart for alle: Ein person som drep seg sjølv for å drepe andre. Les gjerne heile artikkelen til Feser.
